On 5 July, at a free public forum on Sensory Art organised by West Kowloon, award-winning experimental sound designer and composer Darrin Verhagen, senior Sound Design lecturer at the RMIT University Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology , shares his understanding of how sound interacts with other senses, and how composers and sound designers play a manipulative role in shaping perceptual and emotional responses to multisensory artworks.

For their fall residency at Spring Workshop, Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff will produce a film at Spring, staging a series of public events which will function as scenes in service of a larger narrative. During the month of June, three composers will be at Spring as part of the Modern Academy, an in-depth short course in modern music run by HK New Music Ensemble for eighty composers, conductors, instrumentalists and vocalists. Come listen to our halls reverberate…. Hong, Ming Wong, and Zheng Guogu. These encounters will inspire a volume of short stories, scripted together with the invited guests. He will complete a new commission based on research carried out in the first residency, focused on Cantonese opera and cinema.
He will embark on a project in Guangdong province, researching artificial flower factories. A workshop by fellow artist Philip Wiegard will engage children in creating handmade wallpaper in a series of patterns developed by the artist from a historic artisanal technique that requires the small fingers of children. The resulting collaboration between the artists will be exhibited at Spring accompanied by activities and events.

At the crack of dawn, people gather by the banks of the Bosna river, where a communal meal of of scrambled eggs is prepared. Together, people share their breakfast eggs with friends, families, and visitors while drinking and listening to music together to mark the first day of spring. Taking place on either the 20th or 21st of March annually, many celebrants use the morning to climb the steps to the top of the Pyramid to get closer to portals of energy.
The result was a beautiful, exotic floral display, which was so wholeheartedly embraced by the local community, that it became an annual celebration of Spring in the country.
